JayR and Krista Kleiner are Newest Members of STAGES

Prince of Soul JayR and beauty queen Krista Kleiner are the newest members of the growing STAGES family.

The two were formally launched as STAGES artists in a press conference held last September 16, Thaipan Restaurant, Quezon City.

JayR and Krista join Christian Bautista, Karylle, Sam Concepcion, Enrique Gil, Zia Quizon, among others in the stable of stars of STAGES, headed by Carlo Orosa.

Aside from being a respectable company, I believe that STAGES has this vision for me and my music, says JayR. With their experience as a management company, I believe they are knowledgeable enough to market me, as a singer, and my music.

JayR adds that with this new partnership, he hopes to take his music into new levels and territories.

He is currently seen in two GMA 7 shows Protg and Party Pilipinas. Soon, he will have an international tour for Universal Records, his music label.

On the other hand, Krista will be launched as an ultimate performer. This former beauty queen, after all, sings, dances, acts, and hosts. She is set to release her new album, produced by real life sweetheart JayR.

I expect STAGES to help further and develop my career, declares Krista. Their (STAGES) trust, understanding, support and guidance will help me become a better artist, and will give me opportunities to show it.

Head of STAGES Talent Group Carlo Orosa expressed that he is impressed by the artistry of JayR as a music person and Kristas love and dedication for performing.

To partner with both JayR and Krista, who are both very talented, is a great honor and privilege for our humble agency, says Carlo. STAGES is proud to have them in our stable of stars.

Not everybody knows that JayR is the star of STAGES very first musical production Footloose, so this partnership is sort of a homecoming for the Prince of Soul also.

Glee The 3D Concert Movie Employs 3D Tech Used in Avatar

Glee The 3D Concert Movie employed unparalleled 3D technology used in Avatar to bring the audience right in the middle of a premium 3D experience rooting for their idols from the immensely popular Glee television series.

Glee The 3D Concert Movie director Kevin Tancharoen closely collaborated with 3D pioneers and Avatar makers James Cameron and Vincent Pace to bring 3D into fruition while filming the concert during their sold out tours. Taking into consideration the waves of 3D movies that came out after Avatar, Tancharoen made sure that the 3D experience will be worth the audience will pay for in watching Glee The 3D Concert Movie.

Tancharoen, whose roster of clients include Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls further shares in a stream of live chats over the internet how the film is entirely different from his previous works on music videos and films. This is different from the other works Ive because this is completely live. We had to set up all the cameras in various places, and that they all have to be on their mark. So theres a whole another technical hurdle you had to overcome with that.

The 3D aspect lets you feel just how big the show is. Vincent Pace was the guy who created the technology that we used. Theres a huge truck that him and James Cameron designed and used for Avatar. So its like a mother ship of electronics, there were so many monitors in there and a bunch of people doing different 3D convergence monitors. And so it felt like you were running a space ship and there was a lot to handle, and that will be the biggest difference since you had to keep all the technical things in mind while making sure the show is moving along and everyone in the right place, Tancharoen enthuses on filming the movie in 3D.

Concluding fans speculations on what to expect on the film, the director notes that all the spectacle that is Glee is totally tied with the overwhelming support by the fans. With this, the film is infused with testimonials from fans whose lives had been touched and changed by Glee and its characters.

For two weeks only - Glee The 3D Concert Movie opens on September 21 nationwide in 3D digital screens from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Scarlett Johansson Nude Pics Hacker Faces Legal Threat

Scarlett Johansson, her legal team and FBI are about to hunt and sue several websites that published the actress' nude photos allegedly hacked from her cell phone.

The said pictures, surfaced on the internet last Wednesday, shows the actress taking a snap shots of herself using a cell phone draped in nothing but a towel, an exposed mirror reflection of her backside and a topless self-portrait.

Johansson's lawyer, Marty Singer, issued letters to websites that run the photos, including famous showbiz blogger Perez Hilton, demanding that he remove the "stolen copyright protected private photographs."

The letter reads:

Scarlett Johansson and her team are not denying that the nude photos that leaked onto the web on Wednesday are in fact of her. Instead, The Avengers actress is trying to snatch them off the web as quickly as possible.

Johanssons lawyer, Marty Singer, issued letters to websites that are running the photos. Blogger Perez Hilton confirmed on the AMP radio show with Carson Daly on Thursday morning that he had received one of these letters.

The letters state that the images are stolen copyright protected private photographs and should be removed from the sites."

A Two-Headed Robot and Other Real Steel Fun Facts

As the opening of the action-adventure Real Steel approaches, DreamWorks Pictures shares some interesting fun trivia surrounding the film and its creation.

Set in the near future, where robots have replaced boxers in the ring, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a financially strapped, risk-taking former boxer who now makes his living on an underworld robot boxing circuit, operating the metal pugilists that made his human profession obsolete.
  • The robots each have a distinctive look, personality and color scheme and range in size from 76 to 85 in height. Based on human form, they each have two legs, two arms, a torso and a headwith the exception of a two-headed bot aptly named Twin Cities.
  • In addition to their distinctive personas, every robot has a specific sound personality. When a robot lands a punch theres a sound specific to his skeletal material, his mechanisms, his bulk and his mass and theres also an aura sound so that just merely by being turned on every robot has a whir or a whoosh or an engine hum or the sound or a computer.
  • Evangeline Lilly (Lost), who plays Bailey, never saw herself making a boxing film, but when she read the heartfelt script she was won over.
  • Toronto-native Dakota Goyo was chosen from thousands of 10-year-old boys who auditioned for the role of Max, Hugh Jackmans on-screen son, as part of an international casting search.
  • Filming the robot boxing scenes was done with both motion-capture technology and practical-built, full-scale robots. The motion-capture elements were performed and shot months earlier on a stage in Los Angeles. Fighters were put in the ring wearing data-capturing jumpsuits and as they fought, their motions were converted into robot avatars in the computer and instantaneously appeared on the monitors on set. Then, during principal photography, the filmmakers lined up their cameras on an empty ring and the motion-capture data streamed through their cameras, allowing them to watch and frame the robot fighting in the ring in real time.
  • Sugar Ray Leonard was hired by the filmmakers to serve as the films boxing consultant and to train Hugh Jackman for his appearance in the ring.
  • Real Steel costume designer Marlene Stewart created a wardrobe for Hugh Jackmans character Charlie that was inspired by looks from the 1960s, drawing from rugged Americana styles. Even his sunglasses are retro.
  • In Real Steel there is a clear delineation between the two worlds of robot boxing. There is the official league (the WRB); its corporate sponsored, with big money, sanctioned venues and strict rules. Then there is the underworld, which has unsanctioned venues, with no rules, no restrictions - the robots fight to the death.
Opening soon across the Philippines in IMAX and regular theaters, Real Steel is a DreamWorks Picture to be distributed locally by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.

Last Ford Crown Victoria Ends Production

Last Ford Crown Victoria Ends Production

After a run of more than 30 years, the Crown Victoria - best known as Ford's durable, iconic police car - is retiring.

It marks an end for the era of big American cars with family-friendly bench seating and gearshifts on the steering column.

"They offer a glimpse into a bygone era of Detroit boulevardiers, with their front bench seats, soft suspensions and awkward, space-robbing proportions," Andrew Ganz, senior editor of the Web site leftlanenews.com , wrote of the Crown Vic.

Ford dealers stopped selling Crown Vics to consumers in 2008, but sales to police departments have been strong as Ford prepares to launch new police vehicles based on the Taurus large sedan and Explorer SUV.

Introduced as a police car in 1983, the Crown Vic was the top choice of law enforcement in 1996-2010. But the market has gotten more competitive, with the return of the Chevrolet Caprice police car and an improved Dodge Charger now on the market.

In the meantime, many police departments have decided to load up on the Crown Vic they know. Through the first seven months of the year, Crown Vic sales are up 64% to 35,203.

"We're kind of stocking up," said Sgt. Larry Poleski of the Grand Rapids Police Department, which bought about 28 Crown Vics earlier this year.

Zombieland Director Now Offers 30 Minutes or Less

From the director of the acclaimed 2009 hip comedy Zombieland comes Columbia Pictures new quirky, action comedy 30 Minutes or Less starring Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride.

In the film, Nick (Eisenberg) is a small town pizza delivery guy whose mundane life collides with the big plans of two wannabe criminal masterminds (McBride and Nick Swardson). The lowlifes kidnap Nick and strap a time bomb to him with the promise that theyll blow him up unless he robs a bank. With only a few hours to pull off the impossible task, Nick enlists the help of his ex-best friend, Chet (Aziz Ansari). As the clock ticks, the two must deal with the police, hired assassins, flamethrowers, and their own tumultuous relationship.

30 Minutes or Less began the road to the screen when the original action-comedy screenplay landed on the prestigious Black List, an inside-Hollywood tally of the best unproduced screenplays. Director Ruben Fleischer says that everyone involved with the project was first lured by the inventive spark of the screenplay and story. It had a really original voice, says the director. I was excited to read a movie that wasnt a straightforward, predictable comedy it was hard to know where this movie was going when I was reading it.

The movie is an action comedy, but the subject is inherently dark, because of the premise of a guy getting a bomb strapped to his chest, says Fleischer. The comedy comes in how that situation affects the relationship between Nick and Chet. In turn, the action heightens the circumstances of the comedy. A really funny conversation in the midst of a car chase or a bank robbery takes it up a notch. Funny people elevate the material with everything they bring to the table.

For the writers, the chance to find the humor in a very dark situation was irresistible. Its a life-or-death situation these guys could get blown up, says Michael Diliberti. And into that, we put in our characters, two guys who really havent been living their lives to the fullest. What if two guys who really have nothing to live for had to put their lives on the line? We thought that idea was really ripe for comedy.

For his part, Fleischer says he was attracted to the project by a unique combination of factors not least of which are the story and the characters. I hadnt ever seen a story like this before, but more importantly, the characters were very specific Id never seen characters like Nick or Chet or Dwayne or Travis before, Fleischer continues. I thought these were the kind of roles that actors would love to play, and that proved to be true Danny and Jesse and Nick and Aziz were all really excited about it.

For Fleischer, casting those four main roles was key. I feel like I have a good sense of casting, of finding the right people for the parts, then letting them shine and do what they do, he says. When the cameras began to roll, playing the double buddy comedy roles would be Jesse Eisenberg as Nick, the pizza guy; Aziz Ansari as Chet, his estranged best friend; Danny McBride as Dwayne, a lowlife with big dreams and a poorly hatched plan; and Nick Swardson as Travis, the beta male to Dwaynes alpha.

Opening soon across the Philippines, 30 Minutes or Less is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Falling Skies, S Cable TVs No. 1 New Drama Series of the Year Descends upon Asia on AXN Beyond

Executive produced by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Schindlers List) and co-created with Oscar nominated screenwriter Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan), Falling Skies, US cable TVs top new series of 2011 is set to unleash an extraterrestrial invasion of apocalyptic proportions upon Asias audiences.

The riveting new blockbuster science fiction TV series premieres 3 October and airs on Mondays at 8.20pm in 14 markets across the region, first and exclusively on pay-TV channel AXN Beyond.

With Steven Spielberg himself involved in shaping the script, cast, edits, post production to even the aliens and spaceships, AXN Beyond viewers can expect a world class production in Falling Skies. The series hails from the TV production and distribution division of Hollywood studio DreamWorks Pictures, DreamWorks Television, which has been responsible for global hit shows such as The Pacific and Band of Brothers.

Falling Skies is an epic saga in the aftermath of an all-out invasion of Earth by aliens. Set in the chaotic world left completely devastated by the extraterrestrial attack, Falling Skies picks up six months into the alien occupation where the few survivors have come together outside what is left of key cities in an attempt to fight back.

Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers scavenge for supplies, protect the people in their care, and embark on a guerrilla campaign against the enigmatic and deadly alien force. Humans live in the hope of taking back their home one day and rebuilding their lives.

Falling Skies stars Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Noah Wyle (E.R.) as Tom Mason, a Boston history professor whose wife was killed in the invasion and the second of his three sons was captured by aliens. Determined to rescue his son and safeguard his two other boys, Tom must put his extensive knowledge of military history and strategies to the test as the second-in-command of 2nd Mass., a resistance force named after their base in Boston, Massachusetts. However, Toms lack of battlefield experience leaves him at odds with his commander, the no-nonsense, formerly retired military captain Weaver (Will Patton, Armageddon).

Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a paediatrician helping children among the survivors cope with the traumatic upheaval. Anne lost her only son and husband during the invasion. Yet to face up to her loss, Anne is pouring herself into work for 2nd Mass. The tragedy she shares with Tom pulls them close in a unique relationship.

Tom's eldest son, Hal (Drew Roy, Secretariat), has to grow up overnight to fight alongside his father, while youngest child Matt, (Maxim Knight, Brothers & Sisters) remains deeply traumatised from the experience.

Mighty, mysterious and merciless, the extraterrestrial conquerors are highly intelligent and are able to fight using military-like tactics. Combining live-action and visual effects, aliens named Skitters are six-legged spider-like monsters with incredible strength and agility. Bipedal, robotic Mechs walk upright and fire deadly projectiles from their arms. The Skitters and Mechs serve even more powerful extraterrestrials that will be unveiled in the series. Captive children such as Tom's son, Ben (Connor Jessup, The Saddle Club), are controlled through bio-mechanical harnesses fused to their spines which change them to their very core

Falling Skies premiered in the US to 8 million live and time-shifted (digital video recorders) viewers, which made it cable TVs top new series launch of 2011 to date. In addition to viewership, the series earned wide acclaim from critics. American daily The Los Angeles Times commended, Serious without being grim, uplifting without being saccharine, Falling Skies dares to image what feature films will not a world in which Will Smith (Independence Day) or Aaron Eckhart (Battle: Los Angeles) did not bring down the mother ship in time. Media trade publication The Hollywood Reporter unequivocally deemed Falling Skies as being really good.

Beyond the US, Falling Skies is being rolled out internationally in a total of 75 markets across Europe, South America and Asia. The series popularity has already ensured a second season is confirmed and will premiere in the US in the summer of 2012.

A tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which ordinary people are called upon to become heroes, Falling Skies with the off- and on-screen magic of Spielberg, Rodat, Wyle and more will unfold as a blockbuster saga of humans last stand this October, only on AXN Beyond!

Falling Skies premieres 3 October, airing Mondays at 8.20pm in commercial-free double episodes, first & exclusively on AXN Beyond

Gumby Robber and Accomplice Surrender

Gumby robber Jacob Kiss and his accomplice Jason Giramma surrendered to San Diego police on Tuesday, September 13, 8 days after they attempted to rob a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Rancho Penasquitos in San Diego, California.

The incident was caught on tape where it shows that the robber dressed as gumby walked into a 7-Eleven convenience store, claiming to have a gun and demands a pack of cigarettes and cash from a store clerk who thought the incident was just a joke.

The 19-year-old suspect then tried to pull out what he said was a gun from his costume but instead dropped 27 cents on the floor and left the convenience store empty-handed.

The store clerk didn't report the crime to police until his boss saw the footage hours later.

A $1,000 reward was offered through Crime Stoppers about information related to the attempted robbery.

The two men, who brought the Gumby suit with them, voluntarily submitted themselves at San Diego robbery detectives and admitted to have had attempted to rob 7-Eleven.

The San Diego District Attorney's Office has not said whether they will file charges.

Rachel Zoe Terrified to Showcase Her Line at New York Fashion Week

Rachel Zoe is 'terrified' about showing at New York Fashion Week.

The celebrity stylist is to showcase her debut fashion collection at the prestigious event this month and admits she's getting rather nervous.

She told website FabSugar:

Nervous, excited, petrified, anxious, terrified . did I mention terrified? I'm terrified."

However, she is excited about her upcoming spring 2012 runway show and can't wait to see the reaction it gets. She said:

I think becoming a designer was that sort of thing that was inevitable on some level, and then also something that I really waited a long time to do because the timing had to be right. I just felt this was the time I was ready to do it.

It is one of the scariest and most challenging things I've ever done, but also kind of the most exciting."

Rachel, who welcomed son Skyler into the world five months ago, recently compared her debut fashion range to 'giving birth'. She said:

Being a designer was the thing that I always said, 'I'm never going to do this, because I'm too scared to do this.

All of sudden during my presentation this season, I was like 'Oh my god, why am I doing this, I'm too scared to do this. Then it was like, it was almost like giving birth.

When it was over, I was like, 'This is the most exciting, most challenging adventure. This is new, and this is fun."

'Public Atorni' Settles Cases for Cebuanos in Celebration of First Anniversary

They say godparents are handpicked by parents to support a childs upbringing and personal development. And so Chona Martinez, godmother of Jessica, did just that. She was always ready to care for her goddaughter whenever her parents were not around. Thats why it breaks the doting ninangs heart when a tearful Jessica confided that she was being abused by different men - sold by her own mother no less. Public Attorneys Office (PAO) chief and peoples attorney, Persida Acosta, flies to Cebu to look after the potential violation of Child Abuse Act and let the Justify Fullcomplainant and respondent face mediation in the anniversary special of Public Atorni this Thursday after AKSYON JournalisMO on TV5.

After settling more than 100 cases mostly concentrated in Mega Manila, NEWS5s reality-based on-air mediation program Public Atorni goes to Cebu to be of help to Kapatids in need of legal aid services. The show lets the wheels of justice get unclogged by settling claims and disputes through the mediation of Atty. Acosta.

Im personally very happy with this program because this is consistent with the mandate of PAO to encourage battling parties to reconcile through alternative means such as mediation, conciliation and arbitration. The options are clear for them: asunto o areglo (to sue or to settle), says Atty. Acosta.

Aside from the child abuse case, Public Atorni will also look into three other issues from Cebu, including a theft case involving best buds Ruffa and Angel. The two are so well-bonded that they almost share the same misfortune, passion and likes. But that passion had created a vacuum - all because of a missing make-up kit.

The mediation on-air show has also conducted a free legal clinic to hear local cases there with the assistance of NEWS5 senior reporter Ina Zara and AKSYON Bisaya co-anchor Lanne Sino Cruz.

Be informed about legal rights. Watch the two-part anniversary special of Public Atorni on September 15 and 22 after AKSYON JournalisMO on TV5. Catch the full and earlier episodes of NEWS5s public affairs programs from Monday to Friday, 8:30-9:30pm, on TV5s 24/7 news channel Aksyon TV (Channel 41 in Mega Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao, Channel 1 on Cignal Digital TV and Channel 59 on Sky Cable).

Friends With Benefits Holds Sneak Previews on September 19 and 20

Acclaimed as one of the year's best romantic comedies, Columbia Pictures' Friends with Benefits will have whole-day sneak previews on Monday and Tuesday, Sept.ember 19 and 20, in selected theaters everywhere.

From the director of Easy A, the film stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis as liberal singles Dylan and Jamie, respectively, who think it will be easy to add sex to their friendship, but they discover that getting physical always leads to complications.

Timberlake notes, Our characters meet each other in that time where theyve both recently split up from other relationships and were both in that headspace where we kind of want to just be single.

Mila Kunis saw her character Jamie as someone who believes in true love and believes that Prince Charming is out there and is desperately seeking that. Jamie doesnt wear her heart on her sleeve, though. Shes a typical New Yorker, laughs Kunis.

With Dylan working hard to establish himself at a new job in a new city and no time to pursue lifes more frivolous aspects, and Kunis Jamie meeting too many nice guys who turn out to be not-so-nice, the two come to an agreement asserting mutual benefits without the emotional complications of dating. Cause after all, everyone has physical needs, they convince themselves. Jamie Foxx, The Murder Consultant in Horrible Bosses

Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx stars as MF Jones, just your average, neighborhood murder consultant, in New Line Cinema's dark comedy Horrible Bosses. Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell also star.

In the film, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable for Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day), would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Can the three friends pull it off? As Charlie Day points out, These three arent exactly criminal masterminds. But at least theyre smart enough to know they need help. Enter MF Jones, an ex-con with a one-of-a-kind moniker, a flair for the dramatic and a special expertise hes willing to share for the right price as soon as he decides what that might be.

Jones is kind of a self-described murder consultant, the killer confidante, Jamie Foxx reveals. These guys come into a bar, looking for a hit man. He overhears their conversation and, knowing that theyre gullible dumbasses, sees an opportunity to make some money. So he scares them a little and tells them what they want to hear.

Calling Jones an entrepreneur, director Seth Gordon says, Jamie puts some amazing details and gestures into his performance. Hes a real master.

Foxx worked with the director, and costume designer Carol Ramsey, to perfect Jones look, starting at the top. It was his idea to go with full-scalp tattoos as something, he notes, not a lot of people have seen and not a lot of people are doing. Then we got retro with the clothes, the pointy-toe boots and things like that, because this is a guy who maybe went to jail for a minute and now hes living in his own time capsule. When he got out he went right back to the clothes he thought were hot when he went in.

The tattoos took an hour and a half to apply. Foxx recalls, I went out once and people took a couple of pictures and it was all over the Internet, like Jamie Foxx has lost his mind. But it really serves the character and thats the kind of reaction you want.

Opening across the Philippines on September 21, Horrible Bosses is a New Line Cinema distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Conjoined twins Joshua and Jacob Spates, born attached at the pelvis and lower spine, have been successfully separated at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

Hospital surgeons operated for 13 hours to separate the twins in what hospital officials called the most complex procedure every performed in the history of the facility.

Joshua and Jacob Spates of Memphis, though joined at the lower spine and pelvis, have separate hearts, heads and limbs.

Doctors said the twins have health problems that will require ongoing treatment, but said they hope both will be able to walk with braces.

The Pasig City representative personally made the announcement that he and the Valenzuela City councilor is engaged through a taped interview on TV Patrol earlier tonight.

Rep. Romulo also revealed that he first asked for Mrs. Evelyn Soledad's permission to marry her daughter Shalani three weeks ago before she proposed to the lady Councilo at Our Lady of Fatima church in Valenzuela City. He said they plan to get married next year.

On a separate interview, Rep. Romulo's sister, Agriculture Undersecretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, disclosed that her 44-year-old brother gave the 31-year-old Councilor a diamond ring - a heirloom given by their mom, Rosie Lovely Tecson Romulo.

Usec. Puyat also mentioned that his brother has already introduced Shalani to his family in a family dinner 2 weeks ago, an act his brother will not most likely to do unless he takes a lady seriously. She recalled that the last time her brother introduced a lady to their family was 4 years ago.

"He doesn't bring women to the house unless he is serious," she said.

Oprah Winfrey Statement Favoring Shamcey Supsup in Miss Universe 2011 Pageant, Not True

Oprah Winfrey's statement about how the Miss Universe 2011 winner was selected and favoring instead Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup to be the most deserving candidate for the title, is not true according to a statement released by Oprah.com website moderator.

The said Oprah Winfrey statement, which started to make rounds on different social networking sites and several blogs right after Miss Angola Leila Lopes crowned as Miss Universe 2011, reads:

I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point."

The clarification was made in response to inquiry made by Oprah's fan josephteodoro on the said website. The press release states:

There is no truth to the statement. Ms. Winfrey has not made any comments of this nature. Thank you for asking.

Please note that there are many rumors circulating on the internet. For this reason we encourage our members to visit the Press Room on Oprah.com to get the latest updates and news:

Lea Salonga Talks About Shamcey Supsup: "She's smart, spirited, gorgeous. I ranked her second."

Lea Salonga, on her Philippine Daily Inquirer column, talked about her journey as Miss Universe 2011 judge, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup, the Q&A portion, and Miss Universe 2011 winner Leila Lopes of Angola.

Read below:

SO PAULO, Brazil - Hello, Universe!

It's Sept. 12. Today is the day tonight is the night the destiny of one young woman will be changed forever, when she becomes the newest Miss Universe.

I'm going to write this as a journal entry. Perhaps it's the best way to chronicle my brief stay here, one of the biggest cities in the world.

1:09 p.m., Grand Hyatt Hotel

I've now settled quite nicely in my hotel suite. This is the official hotel of the Miss Universe judges. Our call time to meet in the lobby (well, for those requiring full hair and makeup anyway) is at 3:15 p.m., so I'm expecting to meet the other ladies on the panel. The gentlemen, I expect, will not need anything more than a touch-up.

My Monique Lhuillier gown has probably had a much more exciting trip on its way to Los Angeles when the bright idea came up to wear this beautiful taffeta gown, my mother had the task of making sure that it was transported to me safely.

I have to say, she practically moved heaven and earth on my behalf, making phone calls, finding resources and then finally sending off my gown (plus a Gabriel Barredo purse) via a passenger on Philippine Airlines. So, to everyone that helped in getting my gown to me, a huge, huge THANK YOU!!! You know who you are.

My schedule also had to be similarly cranked around to accommodate this wonderful opportunity. Thankfully, my management team was on hand to facilitate the schedule changes, moving a few planets as well to get this done.

So, I'd like to give a huge THANK YOU to the kind and understanding folks at Catalina Bar & Grill and Barnes & Noble at The Grove. My performances have been officially moved to Oct. 24 and Oct. 27, respectively.

Concerts, sendoff

The flight from San Diego to Atlanta to So Paulo went uneventfully. I had finished a couple of concerts the night before at Sycuan, after which my band, cousin and friends sent me off with an impromptu despedida in our hotel.

After grabbing a few hours of sleep, a waiting car brought me to the San Diego airport to check in for my flight.

And now, here I am, with some traditional Brazilian food by me as I type this entry. I'd better stock up on energy, as I have a long day ahead.

2:52 a.m., post-pageant

At 3:15 p.m., the judges who needed makeup and hair all met in the lobby to be transported to the venue. I was the first one downstairs, followed by Connie Chung, Adrienne Maloof, and finally Amelia Vega.

All of us had garment bags in tow plus small pieces of luggage for the rest of our stuff. I brought along copies of my new CD to give to them.

We arrived at Credicard Hall before 4 p.m. and headed straight to our green-room area where a team of Kryolan makeup artists and Chi hairdressers were waiting for us.

My makeup guy was a man named Matias who hailed from Argentina, while the man that did my hair was Arturo from Atlanta. Once 6 p.m. hit, all the other judges had arrived (save for Isabelli Fontana who was stuck in traffic), so it was time for us to be briefed.

Look for that 'it'

We were told to be objective, to look for that "it" factor and physical health (the young woman chosen would have a whirlwind of a life following her win, so she needed to be strong). We were then shown a video of the 16 semi-finalists who were chosen during the preliminary competition.

Many of us kept this group in mind as we headed downstairs to the theater to learn how to use the computers. A representative from Ernst and Young gave us another briefing on how to score and use the consoles.

Red carpet

Immediately after our final briefing, it was time for us to walk the red carpet. I spied some members of the press from home and did a few interviews with them before heading back to the green room for dinner.

After a quick bite, the judges were then called to head back downstairs for the telecast. I took my seat (I was Judge No. 7), got settled and started focusing.

I would only begin my job at the swimsuit competition. As each contestant came out, we had to rank them. I took each candidate as a separate entity, not comparing one girl to another. At the evening gown competition, I did the same, looking to see which girls wore their gowns, and which gowns wore the girls.

Final 5

My stomach started to turn when the Final 5 were called, as this would mean it was time for the final question. Contrary to popular belief, we as judges don't come up with the questions; they are assigned to us. Although I got some amazing suggestions on Facebook and Twitter (thank you all, by the way), I couldn't use them.

As far as the runners-up were concerned, I think each judge had a different ranking, depending on how each girl came across to which judge. I had no idea how anyone else scored. I might have ranked one girl high while someone else ranked that same girl low.

Unanimous

Except of course for the eventual winner, Miss Angola Leila Lopes. I think we were all unanimous in our decision. She radiated grace and elegance from the moment she stepped on stage, and gave a great answer to her final question (which I happened to ask her; she picked my name out of the fishbowl. And that is all, lest anyone think that I made luto that process. No way.)

I ranked Shamcey Supsup second, if I'm being honest. What the TV audience saw could have been different from what we saw. And although Miss Philippines ranked highly up until the final question, we had to consider every single part of the competition. I really liked her answer as she displayed conviction and honesty. But there are nine of us judging.

Gorgeous Shamcey
I thought Shamcey represented our country very well. Smart, spirited, gorgeous. I wasn't at all disappointed because she displayed what is so great about Filipino women: strength, beauty, intelligence. She should be very happy.

First thing I said to her was congratulations! I then asked if I could have a photo taken with her.

I don't know what others thought of Shamcey, all our moves were being monitored and any sort of serious discussion might be misconstrued.

Right after the pageant's conclusion, security whisked us back to the green room. There were a couple of parties that followed, but I didn't stay long at either of them. I had a looming deadline and I've found myself disdainful at loud music and way too many strobe lights.

I'm now back in my hotel room with a snack and soothing music playing. A peaceful end to a very exciting night. To the new Miss Universe, congratulations on a marvelous competition. Enjoy your whirlwind year!
