VHONG NAVARRO and VALERIE CONCEPCION in Star Cinema's "Supah Papalicious"

After releasing a number of box-office hits, Vhong Navarro is back with another character that will be remembered alongside with his portrayal of Mr. Suave, Hesus of D Anothers, Agent X44, and Lastikman.

This time, Vhong marks his anticipated return to the big screen in Supah Papalicious.

"Todo na to! Hinding hindi n'yo makakalimutan ang pelikulang hinahanda namin para sa inyo. Haping hapi na sa akin napunta ang role na 'to dahil tawa ako ng tawa binabasa ko pa lang ang script. Tapos si Manong Gilbert [Perez] pa ang direktor so ineexpect ko ang kakaibang atake sa comedy. Ang gagaling din ng mga kasama ko, si Makisig [Morales] at Valerie [Concepcion]. So kumpletos recados talaga," Vhong points out.

Valerie tries a different route from hosting as she engages in a comedic role via the film Supah Papalicious. "First time kong gumawa ng ganitong kalaking pelikula. I'm deeply honored and thankful sa Star Cinema kasi they gave me a chance to be Vhong's leading lady and takot ako at the same time, super excited dahil comedy naman itong ginagawa ko, something I haven't done before." It was reported in PEP recently that Valerie's contract as a Wowowee host was just renewed and that she is being considered for a role in the remake of Betty La Fea.

Child star Makisig Morales also tries his hand at comedy-with funnyman Vhong Navarro no less. After starring in Super Inggo and Pedro Penduko at mga Engkantao, Makisig is expected to conquer the big screen as well when he makes his debut in Supah Papalicious.

Star Cinema's comedy flick Supah Papalicious opens in theaters nationwide starting March 22.

PACQUIAO - MARQUEZ 2: Unfinished Business on GMA 7

Hes entertaining singers for auditions. I dont know how hell do it, sambit ni Wilson Tieng.

ANGEL LOCSIN Finally Dares to Bare in "Cosmopolitan"

Trust Angel Locsin to take everyone by surprise. Despite being a constant fixture on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll, Angel has chosen to pose in a swimsuit for the very first time on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine.

"First time ko to," she told the Cosmo team during the shoot, "I hope it turns out well. Inisip ko kasi, if gagawin ko to, it might as well be on Cosmo." After all, posing for Cosmo would mean reaching fun fearless females like herself.

Despite being one of the biggest names in the industry today, Angel was surprisingly shy at the Cosmo cover shoot, getting quite jittery over the sexy summer shoot and clowning around with the Cosmo team just to loosen up. The jitters don't show in Angel's confident pose, as she says, "Lahat naman tayong mga babae, may body issues, di ba? But you should be happy with your body and comfortable in your own skin."

For Angel, being comfortable in your own skin shows in the way you carry yourself. She encourages Cosmo girls everywhere to make an effort to always look presentable and even dare to be kikay.

"Iba rin yung feeling pag nakaayos kapag lalabas ka't alam mong okay ang itsura mo, ready kang harapin kahit sino." Angel points out, "It's great to be in jeans and T-shirt, but it's also great to be in a dress."

Angel continues to strive towards becoming a better version of herself by branching out of her comfort zone. Since 2007, she has taken time off to study fashion in London, become a first-time producer with the movie Angels, and is now learning how to play the guitar. "You have to keep on learning," she says, "You shouldn't get complacent." Clearly, Angel has become a woman of substance.

Angel sizzles on the cover of Cosmopolitan's March issue, now available in all newsstands and magazine stores nationwide at P125 per copy.

MANDY MOORE: Im Older & Wiser

When Mandy Moore comes for a concert at the Eastwood City on March 12, it will be, to quote one of her movies, a walk to remember. Eastwood City happens to be the home of the one and only Walk of Fame hereabouts, the Philippine counterpart of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is the brainchild of German Kuya Germs Moreno in cooperation with Wastwood City.

For the event, Eastwood City will transform its outdoor stage into a unique 2,500-seater amphitheater to accommodate the fans of Mandy who has visited the country twice.

As a refresher, Eastwood City sent Funfare this backgrounder:

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on April 10, 1984, Mandy has emerged as one of the hottest young stars of today. Since her first CD release with So Real in 1999, Mandys career has flourished as she has released even more hit records, starred in several movies (Princess Diaires 1, A Walk to Remember, Saved, Try 17, Chasing Liberty, Americam Dreamz, How to Deal, License to Wed and, coming soon, Because I Said So).

She has released her own clothing line called MBLEM and has reached enormous success with it as her clothes have been sold in stores all across America.

Her new (fifth) CD, called Wild Hope, was released late last year.

Mandy is never too busy to mind the less fortunate. She donated her time to various charities.

Funfare did an exclusive one-on-one with Mandy a few days ago; she was in New York. The STAR (again, the only Philippine broadsheet Mandy talked to) has done two interviews with Mandy. The first was sometime in 2000 when she was just starting as a singer, during the launch of her album Wanna Be With You in Bangkok and then in 2003 when she came to grace the MTV World Music Summit (and also to promote her album Coverage.)

Its your second time to visit the Philippines. Any fond memories from your first visit?
Oh, memories! I remember having a chaotic and crazy time at the hotel we were staying in...I remember having a lot of fun...I remember the people being such lovers of music...Well, I just remember really enjoying myself.

Of course, the Philippines must be memorable to you because of your special friendship with a Filipino, pop star Billy Crawford (who once confessed that he briefly went steady with Mandy who confirmed it).

Oh, yes, yes, I remember Billy. But I havent seen or heard from him in a long time. The last time we performed together was years ago, with the *NSYNC. I havent talked to him since then.

Im sure your fans in the Philippines are eagerly waiting for your concert...

...Oh, Im just as excited to sing for them. Ill be doing songs from my new (fifth) album, Wild Hope, which was released last year. My concert will be a bit different from the last one over there because it shows me going in a different direction. Im just too excited to share that piece of myself with my fans over there.

Youve been performing in concerts and doing movies. Which one are you more comfortable in, singing or acting?
In singing, I performing before a live audience. Theres nothing more satisfying than seeing your audience enjoy what you are doing and yourself enjoying the whole experience with them. But I do love doing movies, too.

You write songs, too, dont you?
Oh yes, I do!

How much do you draw from your personal experience when youre writing songs?
Subconsciously I do that, I think, just like every other songwriter. You cant help it.

Do you write songs better when youre in love or when youre out of love?
You know, its easier for me to write songs when Im not in love. Yes, I my limited experience. Dont ask me why.

Ive seen some of your movies, including A Walk to Remember, Princess Diaries and License to Wed (released recently in the Philippines). You have two more coming soon, Dedication and Southland Tales. In movies, where are you more comfortable, drama or comedy?
I love doing romantic-comedies because the roles I play are close to who I am, and that makes things easier for me. I play one of those roles in Because I Said So, one of my new movies.

Who among the actresses do you admire?
There are a couple of people out there, especially young actresses, people like, uh, Reese Witherspoon. I love the fact that she can do really big mainstream films and kind of go up and do quirky little independent films. Shes loved in both kinds of roles. Shes my role model.

In an interview published in a recent issue of Jane magazine, you revealed that you went through a period of depression and you arrtibuted it to your split-up with Zach Braff, star of Scrubs. (According to Jane, while promoting his new film, The Last Kiss, Braff opened up about the troubles of dating in Hollywood, saying that his break-up with Mandy in 2006 was due in part to their nine-year age difference and that the scrutiny put on celebrities can be overwhelming. A relationship is hard, doing it in the public eyes is something thats very new to me, I was a waiter five years ago and when I was a waiter nobody was telling lies about me in the tabloids. But its par for the course.)

(Mandy was quoted by Jane as saying): A few months ago, I felt really low, really sad depressed for no reason. The break-up added to what I was going through, but its not the complete reason.

How do you cope with a broken heart?
Hmmmm...I guess I just surround myself with people I love and who love me, no matter what. Or I spend some time just being by myself. That helps, I guess.

By the way, how did you spend Valentines Day?
 home.

Do you find it difficult to combine your career and your love life?
No, not really. I would I say I dont find it any more difficult than anybody else would. Its all about prioritizing and finding equal time for both.

As far as dating and courtship are concerned, are you the old-fashioned type?
Hmmmm...A bit old-fasioned and a bit modern. But I dont find doing my fair share when Im out on a date.

Youre 23 and youve have gone through a lot of things since you were 15 when you entered showbiz. How different are you now from what you were then?
Hmmmm...good question. Let me see...Yes, Im older and wiser. Ive met new friends and wonderful people in my life. Ive done things that Im really proud of. Ive been through ups and downs but, yes, Im good!

(Note: Mandy Moore Live at Eastwood City will be held on March 12, starting at 7:30 p.m. For ticket inquiries, call 687-1499 or 687-6770 to 74; text 0917-8-EWCITY.)

DAVID HERNANDEZ of American Idol 7: Gay Stripper?

An interesting rumor has just surfaced that David Hernandez was a stripper in Phoenix before his time on American Idol. Obviously we're not 100% sure, but here's what we've found so far. After rumors were posted around the internet that David has a steady boyfriend of 2-3 years and that he stripped at Dick's Cabaret, we found pictures of David working at Burn, a gay nightclub that just recently closed in Phoenix. Obviously you don't wear the club's logo if you don't work there. So although we haven't found any pictures of him stripping just yet, we're still on the hunt, and the pictures we found are leading us in the right direction. We'll keep you updated.

2008 Oscars Ratings Sink to All-Time Low

US television ratings for this years Oscars sunk to an all-time low, preliminary figures showed Monday, as viewers turned their back on a ceremony dominated by dark, bleak films.

According to figures from Nielsen Media Research, Sundays three-hour-long ceremony at the Kodak Theatre averaged an audience of only 32 million viewers, the worst since records began in 1974.

The previous lowest figure had been in 2003, when only 33.04 million people tuned in for a ceremony won by Chicago that took place just days after the beginning of the US-led war in Iraq.

Final figures are due to be released on Tuesday but are not expected to change significantly. If the 2008 figures are confirmed, it would represent a drop of more than 20 percent from last years average audience of 41 million.

The record-low audience came in a year when the Oscars race for best picture was dominated by films that received critical acclaim but struggled to perform at the box-office.

Only one film out of the five best picture nominees the teenage comedy Juno broke the 100 million dollar barrier this year.

Analysts say there is a high correlation between the box-office popularity of films nominated for the Oscars best picture and television viewership for the Academy Awards.

The largest average audience ever for the Oscars telecast came in 1998, when 55.25 million watched the ceremony which was won by Titanic, the highest grossing movie of all time with box-office earnings of 1.85 billion dollars.

Sundays Oscars were won by Joel and Ethan Coens bleak thriller No Country for Old Men, a grim adapation of Cormac McCarthys novel of the same name.

The film won four awards best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and best supporting actor.

The acting awards on Sunday were swept by non-American actors for the first time since 1965.

JENNYLYN's Letter To Her Unborn Child

To my dearest baby,

First of all, I want you to know that Mommy loves you very much. I may not be sure how to show it or how to make you feel it, but I love you deeply because you are my life and I know that you know that because you are keeping me strong. God has given you to me to be my strength and inspiration.

Baby, I also want to tell you that I am very sorry. If I could have chosen a better circumstance for you to be brought into this world, I would. But I couldnt, kaya Im sorry that you will have to grow up in an imperfect world. Mommy did not have an ideal childhood, and I wanted sana to spare you from the complications of being born into a broken home. But Daddy and I are both not ready, kaya hindi namin maibibigay sayo yung complete family that you deserve. Pero, Baby, we love you very much at kahit hindi buo ang family natin, our love for you will keep you whole. I promise you that.

As much as natatakot ako that I will not be a perfect mommy, I am excited to have you na, Baby. I want to cuddle you and kiss you and witness all your firsts. We will sing together and laugh together and have sobrang madaming-madaming fun.
I promise you that, as best as I can, I will protect you from harm. I may not be able to prevent other people and things from hurting you but I will always be here to cry with you and to comfort you. I will take care of you the best way I can because I love you very much, Baby.

You came into my life as a blessing from God, and I will forever be thankful to Him for that. You are the reason why I am happy because God gave you to me as a promise that everything will be okay. And, I assure you, all will be okay, Baby. Just be strong and I will also be strong for you.

Mommy loves you very much.

Dance Like Theres No Tomorrow
(Paula Abdul)

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like theres no tomorrow
Dont care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like theres no tomorrow

Today just wasnt my day
Everyones getting me so fed up
Ive gotta find a way
I know what can make me feel better
Stepping out in my best
Looking hotter than ever
Wherever the party is
Thats where Ill be in a second

Im so ready to move my body
Forget about all my problems
When I hear that song
Im lose control
Hey, here I go

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like theres no tomorrow
Dont care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like theres no tomorrow

Im loving the atmosphere
Feels like Im floating in heaven
The musics all in my ear
Taking over me
My hearts racing
Feeling so Hollywood
How I got everybody staring
Their eyes are the cameras
And Im loving all the attention

Get up, bout to move my body
Forget about all my problems
Theyre playing our song
Im lose control
Hey, here I go

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like theres no tomorrow
Dont care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like theres no tomorrow

Please DJ
Dont say its the last one
Cause I know what it means
And I dont want you to play no slow song
Im still building the nerve to talk to that guy
Just give me another song and make it right

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like theres no tomorrow
Dont care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like theres no tomorrow

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like theres no tomorrow
Dont care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like theres no tomorrow

The result on the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines from February 19 to 21 among Mega Manila households, is basically the same as in the previous weekdays.

While Marimar is strongly holding on to its No. 1 position in the primetime race, Eat Bulaga! is still in command in the daytime race.

RICHARD, MARIAN 2008 Box-Office King and Queen

My Bestfriends Girlfriend na co-produced ng Regal at GMA Films ang top-grossing Valentine movie of 2008 (so far) dahil sa mahigit P50 million gross nito after four days of release.

ANNE CURTIS is Not Moving to GMA-7, Renews Contract with ABS-CBN

So, some things are really not meant to happen.

Tatapusin din daw ng young actress ang pelikula niya with Aga Muhlach as her leading man, ang Waiting For Love.

A Viva artist ever since, Anne started her TV career with GMA-7 in 1995 appearing on the following shows: TGIS, Anna Karenina, Ikaw Na Sana, Mornings@GMA, May Bukas Pa, Beh! Bote Nga, Kakabakaba, Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw, SOP, Love To Love, and Nuts Entertainment.

Then in 2005, Anne got her biggest break when she reprised the role of Vilma Santos in the TV remake of Kampanerang Kuba.

Hollywood's Worst-Dressed Celebrities of 2008

Aretha Franklin, Marilyn Manson, Eva Longoria, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue are the WORST-DRESSED CELEBRITIES of 2008, according to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Christina Ricci, Martha Stewart and Alicia Keys said they'll never again wear fur after getting the same negative recognition last year from this animal rights organization.

How bout some R-E-S- P-E-C-T for animals?
Aretha, when you waddled into the Grammys in yet another vulgar fur, you looked as if you were going to perform I Am the Walrus by The Beatles.
You may be a queen, but you dont know jack about compassion.

Always draped in leather from head to toe, Manson has enough skeletons in his closet to fill a pet cemetery.
As if wearing dead animals isnt foul enough, Manson says that he wears his cow-skin pants 24/7, only peeling the smelly things off to have sex.
That alone should be enough to tarnish leathers dated sex appeal.
Manson may just be the shock-rockers stage name, but his wardrobe is a real-life tale of blood and guts.

Eva Longoria is short on compassion.
In her trashy furs, she looks like the street walker of Wisteria Lane.
Eva is one desperate housewife who needs a quickie divorce -- from her stylist.

I Know Who Killed Me isnt just the title of Lindsay Lohans last bomb --its also the cry of the animals snuffed out so that this mean girl can pose in their pelts.
Lindsay, theres no road to recovery for the foxes who are anally electrocuted so that you can look skanky.

Nothing completes the transition from supermodel to super-tramp like a fur coat.
If Kate could see clearly through those bleary eyes, maybe shed clear her closet of those furs.

What does Kylie Minogue have in common with her python purse? They are both cold-blooded.
Come on, Kylie -- its not cool to clutch onto an accessory made by nailing snakes to trees and skinning them alive.

According to PETA, Animals are living, feeling beings who dont want to die -- they arent fabrics.

Cows killed for their skin have their horns and tails cut off without any painkillers, some snakes and lizards are nailed to trees and their skin is ripped off their bodies while they are still alive, and alligators on farms may be beaten to death with hammers and axes -- just for their skin.

According to the Berlinale website, the Caligari Film Prize, three-person jury awards the Caligari Film Prize to a film in the Forum. The prize is sponsored by the German Federal Association of Communal Film Work and Filmdienst magazine. The winning film is honoured with 4,000 Euros, half of which is given to the director, the other half is meant to fund distribution. The 2008 jury: Andreas Heidenreich, Dagmar Kamlah, Julia Teichmann.

Tirador is the first Filipino film to be shown in Forum to win the special award.

Aside from Tirador, four other Filipino films screened in the Forum section were Jim Libirans Tribu (Tribe); Mes de Guzmans Balikbayan Box; Khavn dela Cruzs The Muzzled Horse of an Engineer in Search of Medical Saddles; and John Torres Years When I Was a Child Outside. It was the first time that Berlin has featured five films from Filipino filmmakers.

Tirador has been previously sold to Peccadillo Pictures for UK and Ireland. Frances Swift Distribution has acquired the Frenchs broadcast and video rights. In Berlin, however, its theatrical company Equation has added the theatrical rights for the film. Negotiations are underway for possible distribution in North America and Germany.

Tirador will compete at the Singapore and Indianapolis International Film Festivals in April where the major winner will receive North American distribution by Film Movement and at the Cines del Sur in Granada, Spain in June.

Aside from Martin, Tirador stars Jiro Manio, Kristoffer King, Nathan Lopez with the special participation of Jaclyn Jose, Simon Ibarra and Julio Diaz. Ralston Joel Jover wrote the script. The movie was produced by Centerstage productions.

The Film Development Council headed by chairman Jacky Atienza, festival committee chairperson Christine Dayrit and executive director Lali Suzara subsized the trip to Berlin of the Filipino delegation.

Mutya ng Pilipinas Beauty Awes Malaysians

MANILA, Philippines - A funny thing happened to 2007 Mutya ng Pilipinas Anna Marie Morelos when she went to Malaysia last December to compete in the first Miss Tourism Metropolitan pageant.

The 18-year-old nursing student was surprised to be greeted by a crowd taking photos of her as if she was a celebrity.

Apparently, they had mistaken Morelos for Malaysian superstar Pasha Shandra, who was also arriving on the same day.

At first I didnt understand [why] they also wanted to have their pictures taken with me. Still, I gamely posed with them, Morelos told Inquirer Entertainment.

I only realized they were waiting for another person when they showed me her photograph, Morelos said. Kamukha ko nga siya!

No superstar

She had to explain to the people that she was not Shandra.

A few hours after that amusing airport scene, Morelos arrived at the hotel and was assigned a room with fellow contestants from Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

The pageant calendar spanned three weeks. Since coronation night was on Dec. 31, Morelos had to spend her first Christmas away from her family and where the holiday season is not traditionally celebrated.
But this was not the only sacrifice she had to make.

Before flying to Kuala Lumpur, Morelos crammed her hospital training hours so that shell be ready if she needs to extend her stay overseas.

All these paid off when the 57 Filipina beauty landed in the Top 5, ending the Philippines 2007 pageant season with a bang. Her victory likewise redeemed the country from dismal results in the previous four major international pageants.

When my name was called in the Top 10, I told myself, okey na to, Morelos recalled. During intermission, I texted Mama and told her I made it to the semifinals.

Winning answer

She also related to Inquirer Entertainment that she was not too excited when her name was called. I was happy, but it felt different knowing that your family is not there to see you being called on stage, she explained.

In the interview segment, a judge asked Morelos where she would prefer to go on a holiday trip. Replying that shed like to explore fascinating sights in Southeast Asia, Morelos expounded that the experience would in turn help her promote the Philippines as one of the worlds most exciting tourist destinations.

The answer helped her clinch the fourth runner-up slot, which she didnt expect.

Sorina Neacsu of Romania won the title.

I had no idea who would win, Morelos confessed. I thought every girl had an edge and a distinct beauty. So I thought, mapapansin pa kaya ako?. She also did not receive any subsidiary awards in the preliminaries.
However, she noted how appreciative the Malaysians were of her own qualities. They really admire Filipinos. They think were smart and intelligent. It made me proud And the Filipino bellmen in the hotel kept shouting, Go Philippines! whenever they saw me. So that boosted my confidence and self-esteem, Morelos said.

The whole experience has also given her the impetus to consider joining other competitions in the future.
But that would have to wait. She wants to finish her studies as an incoming senior nursing major at Our Lady of Fatima University in Valenzuela City.

What a gorgeous nurse shed make.
