American Idol Season 8 Premiere Telecast Garnered 10% Lower Ratings

American Idol premiered it�s Season 8 run with 10 percent fewer viewers than last year�s season opener, despite an addition of new judge.

However, its 30.1 million viewers were still enough to make it the no. 1 show in America having the biggest audience for any U.S. television broadcast so far this season.

The previous leader was held by the detective series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation which garnered 23.5 million viewers on its season premiere last October 9, 2008, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The wednesday season premiere of American Idol marks the lowest audience total for a season-debut episode since 2004, when 28.2 million tuned in.

The show�s biggest season premiere was in 2007, watched by 37.3 million viewers.

An additional judge was introduced this season making a panel of four judges. Kara DioGuardi, a songwriter and producer, joins veteran panelists Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson.

American Idol Season 8 is aired in the Philippines via a 7-hour delayed broadcast on QTV-11 Every Wednesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and a replay in the primetime block.
